Recording Tips

Recording Environment:  Provide a quiet, noise-free environment.

Microphones hear everything!

• outside noises
• background conversations
• vacuums
• telephones
• coughing/sneezing
• ice rattling, food being eaten
• paper shuffling

Equipment: Use high-quality recording equipment – don’t skimp here!  Use a good quality microphone with an appropriate number of mikes for participants. Groups may require multiple microphones.

Equipment settings: Use optimum for volume and speed.

Test: Record a test sentence, and play it back for quality assessment.

Speakers: Speak clearly in direction of microphone; one speaker at a time.

Moderators of groups: Instruct participants to speak one at a time, without interrupting others.
